So, you’ve heard about these nifty little vape cartridges that let you puff your way through the day with ease. But what’s actually inside these bad boys that makes them tick? Let’s break it down for you:
The Good Stuff: Cannabis Oil
At the heart of every vape cartridge is the cannabis oil. This stuff comes from the plant itself and packs a punch. There are 4 main types in Canada, with more on the rise:
- THC Oil: This is the one that gets you high. It’s extracted from strains that are loaded with tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive stuff that makes you feel all floaty and chill.
- CBD Oil: Now, this one’s more about the therapeutic vibes without the high. It’s extracted from strains with lots of cannabidiol (CBD), which is known for its calming and soothing effects.
- CBG Oil: CBD , CBG, CBN are both nonintoxicating cannabinoids, meaning they won’t make you high, but they both have their own benefits. CBG is what I like to define as the more sativa of “CB’s”, in how the could stand for “go,go,go!”. It tends to boost mood of the smoker, and also provide a small amount of energy (which is why its likened to a sativa and found in some sativa strains).
- CBN: Like the other CB’s, CBN is nonintoxicating but in this case is more of an indica, due its sedating effect. Whereas CBG & CBD is multipurpose (all day), CBN is suited for nighttime use (unless you’re looking for a mid day nap!). Due to this effect, I liken the “N”in CBN to nighttime.
Extra Goodies
Besides the main act (the oil), there are a few other things that might sneak into your cartridge:
- Terpenes: These are like the spices of the cannabis world. They give each strain its unique flavor and aroma. Some cartridges add them back in to recreate that full-on strain experience.
- Cutting Agents: Sometimes, they’ll toss in things like propylene glycol (PG) or vegetable glycerin (VG) to thin out the oil and make it easier to vape. But hey, there’s some debate about whether these are all that great for you, so watch out.
- Flavourings: Ever wondered why your vape tastes like blueberry muffins? That’s probably some added flavoring. They’re usually okay to eat, but heating them up and inhaling? Jury’s still out on that one.
Type of Carts:
You can either get a distillate in a cartridge, or Live Resin / Rosin. Thankfully we have a few blog posts that compare these for ya, so you can make a best (stoned) decision. To summarize, distillate is more on the flavoured and thc screaming side of things. Live Resin and Rosin are more “weedy” but pack more of a terpy punch versus a THC dependant one ! Try them both out and let us know what you think.
Keeping It Safe and Legal
Now, here’s the deal: not all cartridges are created equal. Some places are getting strict about testing and labeling to keep things safe for you. Stick with the good stuff from reputable sources, and you should be golden.
Wrap It Up
So, there you have it. Vape cartridges are a sweet way to enjoy your cannabis without all the hassle of rolling up. Just remember to stay informed about what’s inside and where it’s coming from. That way, you can keep on puffin’ responsibly and enjoy the ride. Just wait to see what we have in store for you, because man, you’re gonna have a whirlwind of combos coming your way!
As always,
Stay high.
